AUTOFORE - Study on the Future Options for Roadworthiness Enforcement in the European Union
Introduction
In spring 2004, the Commission of the European Union invited proposals for a part funded study on future options for roadworthiness enforcement in the European Union. CITA, in conjunction with five partners, put forward a proposal called 'Autofore'. In December 2004, the Commission awarded the Autofore consortium a grant of €300,000 towards the cost of undertaking this study. Matching funding was provided by twelve CITA members.
The study itself lasted for two years and was carried out by an international consortium led by CITA and made up of research bodies associated with a number of CITA members, academic institutions and independent consultants. It was steered by a committee of the sponsors, which included the Commission, the partners and a large number of CITA members.
Content of the study
The purpose of the AUTOFORE project is to recommend improvements in roadworthiness enforcement in the European Union to ensure that the benefits accrueing from the original design and manufacture of vehicles, are retained where required and justified, throughout the life of those vehicles.
