Global Challenges - Opportunities for Change

Interactive Plenary Sessions and Workshops

Wednesday 14th Oct. 2009 and Thursday 15th Oct. 2009

The world is facing an increasing number of major challenges. Unless they are addressed urgently, they may threaten our economic, social and environmental wellbeing. Motorised road transport is associated with many of these problems. Radical changes are needed to make road transport sustainable. Change brings opportunities.

The 2009 CITA Conference will focus on:

  • identifying opportunities and making the most of them
  • maximising the contribution that in-service vehicle inspection can make to help solve problems

3 Plenary Sessions and 9 Workshops

Plenary Sessions
Each plenary session will cover one of 3 Conference sub-themes. They will be led by a moderator to stimulate discussion and lead delegate participation through use of interactive technology.

Workshops
The workshops will give delegates the opportunity to interact with a panel of 3 specialist speakers.
Each speaker will present their input to the debate chaired by a leading specialist. Speakers will form a panel for a Q & A session to close each workshop.

Plenary Session 1: Modernizing Vehicle Testing

International standards for periodic technical inspections (PTI) and roadside technical inspections have not been kept up-to-date to reflect rapid advances in vehicle design in the areas of safety and environmental protection. This session will focus on the vision and objectives of key stakeholders and their high level plans for modernizing international standards.

Plenary Session 2: New Technologies

Electronic control systems and other applications of new technology are revolutionising the potential for vehicles to be significantly safer, environmentally friendlier and less dependent on fossil fuels. This session will focus on maximising the contribution that in-service vehicle inspection can make to help sustain these benefits.

Plenary Session 3: Focus on the Customer

Testing organizations need the support and confidence of their customers more than ever, particularly in these challenging times. This session will focus on new approaches and opportunities to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction.
